Gardens and parks are landscaped and manicured to provide aesthetic beauty mainly for urbanites. Golf courses can be put into this category. Exotic flowering plants and ornamental trees are planted to enhance the landscape of many gardens and parks. It is common to see rain trees, jacaranda and flame of the forest providing a feast for the eyes in many parks such as the Taiping Lake Gardens and the Botanical Garden in Penang
Most of the birds in gardens and parks are often found in large numbers. Notable examples include the Common Myna, doves, and Asian Glossy Starlings.
My garden in Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur was instrumental in my pursuit of our winged friends. My fascination began with an Olive-backed Sunbird. When I captured this creature with a point and shoot camera, I was enthralled by its exotic and vibrant colours. My husband told me that photographing birds would make a good hobby and I was hooked. A hobby soon turned into a passion. I was soon venturing into nearby gardens and parks looking for more birds while graduating from a point and shoot camera to a DSLR with a sophisticated lens.
